Between the pandemic and racial injustice, there’s no doubt that these are tough times. As a white parent raising two white boys, I’ve struggled in particular with talking with my children about prejudice, police brutality and consequences for two reasons: a) young kids don’t seem to understand nuance! and b) there don’t seem to be ANY consequences for men in power these days.
I know you ask yourselves similar questions: How do I get my kids to understand their privilege? How do I explain racism and protests? How can I help them be the change we so desperately need in the world? I spent the morning going through and rereading the articles HuffPost Parents has done on these very topics over the years, which we recently(ish) compiled into one spot for easy access. These are, after all unfortunate evergreen topics.
So if you need some help figuring out what to say to your kids, I hope these articles can help guide your conversations. |
