Devon moved to Kansas City about four years ago after having lived in New Orleans, Boston and Cincinnati. He was attracted to the city because of its vibrant art community, and is now the artistic director of the Kansas City Ballet. “I was immediately dumbfounded by the amount of art that was going on in this city — and also the philanthropic community behind the arts here in this city,” he said. “Those two things really clearly made it an obvious decision to come here.” The Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts, which includes ballet, lyric opera and symphony, was built six years ago. Devon said it’s now known as one of the greatest theaters in the country. It’s critical that people recognize the importance of the arts in communities, Devon added — an opinion that partly explains his love for Kansas City. “It’s our livelihood, you know. This is what we do. This is what we believe in,” he said. “My goal is to help our community on an ongoing basis understand that the arts aren’t just something nice but that they’re a necessity in our lives because we need that cultural enrichment.” Democrats should be paying more attention to rural voters, according to the party chair in Nebraska.HuffPost partnered with Nebraska Radio Network to take a look inside the state's Democratic Party.Sue Patton and Blair (left) live in Indiana.
