US lawmakers, for the second time in a month, discussed human rights in Kashmir at Washington DC's Capitol Hill on Thursday. They heard testimonies from several panelists including John Sifton of Human Rights Watch, who said, 'A government cannot derogate from the freedom of expression and assembly so broadly and open-endedly and for so long. They are wary of a Hindutva backlash and fear this could help the BJP make a foothold in the state.
