Click here President Donald Trump is threatening to pull the U.S. out of the Iran nuclear agreement unless Congress amends an existing law to change U.S. commitments.Even if Congress does make the change, it could destroy the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action that was negotiated between Iran, the U.S. and five other countries in 2015.The foreign policy chief of the European Union took notice, noting the pact is “not a bilateral agreement” and the deal would remain in place with the international community.“The president of the United States has many powers, but this is not one,” she said.On Capitol Hill, however, Republican Sens. Bob Corker (Tenn.) and Tom Cotton (Ark.), are already drafting legislation to appease the president. The legislation would modify the existing deal so the U.S. would no longer necessarily honor expirations that had been agreed to for some of the restrictions on Iran’s nuclear program.Any such change would likely be seen as a U.S. violation of the nuclear agreement.WHAT ELSE IS HAPPENING?GOP Sen. Susan Collins, who had been wrestling with a potential Maine gubernatorial run, announced she will remain in the Senate.Trump plans to stop payments to health insurance companies serving the poorest customers on Obamacare exchanges, the White House announced.Trump lamented attacks on American “values” in a speech given just over a year after a tape of him bragging about sexual assault went public.ICYMI
