After a neck-and-neck battle with the Congress on counting day, the BJP in Haryana looks like it will be able to cobble up numbers to form a government. While Sirsa MLA Gopal Kanda announced his unconditional support, BJP has been facing flak for siding with Kanda because he is accused of abetting the suicide of air hostess Geetika Sharma. Meanwhile, Betwa Sharma reports that even Hindus in Jammu are confused after Article 370, but are scared to speak up.

Haryana: BJP Close To Staking Claim To Form Govt, But Outrage Builds Over Kanda

After the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) performed below expectations in Haryana, winning 40 out of 90 assembly seats, it had been trying to woo independent MLAs to try and cross the magic number of 46, which would allow it to form a government. Now, news reports say that the BJP has garnered the support of at least five, and possibly all eight, independent MLAs from the state.

In Jammu, Hindus Are 'Confused', Worried About Article 370, But Won't Speak Out

In Rajouri, the people that HuffPost India spoke with—Hindus and Muslims— said they were shocked at the initial announcement, and remain both worried and confused to this day. For Muslims, one big worry was the thought that “outsiders” would now be able to come and purchase land and settle in Jammu division. For some, there was also fear as they imagine a situation in which most of these outsiders are Hindus, which just might shatter the thin veneer of communal harmony that exists among Hindus and Muslims in places like Rajouri.
