Click here We’re on the road again! The Listen To America bus was in Lincoln, Nebraska, yesterday.Danielle Datu met Khara Plicanic, who said Lincoln will always be her home. “I was born here and now I’m raising my family here,” the 38-year-old business owner said. Despite moving away for school and jobs, Khara found her way back to the “amazing” city. “The community here is fantastic,” she said. “There's a lot of support.” Khara said she has felt that way for as long as she can remember. When her mom and husband immigrated to the U.S. from Cuba and Bosnia, respectively, they both chose to come to Lincoln. “It actually has been resettling a lot of refugees for decades,” she said. “I think that’s a really cool feather in our cap. We can all be proud of that.” Khara said she’s currently worried about “the nationalism that's really exploding around the world.” “As a kid growing up and studying World War II, I often wondered, ‘How could this possibly have ever happened?’ I'm learning now,” she said. “I'm seeing how that could have happened and that's terrifying.” Still, Khara said she can count on her fellow Nebraskans. “People [in Lincoln] do a good job of supporting each other and coming to the rescue when they're needed.” QingWai Wong (left) grew up in working at her family’s restaurant in Connecticut.
