TRUMP SAYS 'THANK YOU' TO VIDEO SAYING 'ONLY GOOD DEMOCRAT IS A DEAD DEMOCRAT' The president quote-tweeted a video shared by Cowboys for Trump. In the video, the group’s founder, Couy Griffin, is speaking in front of a New Mexico church, encouraging his audience to violate stay-at-home orders during the coronavirus pandemic. “I’ve come to a conclusion where the only good Democrat is a dead Democrat,” says Griffin, going on to add that he doesn’t mean that in a “physical sense,” but in a “political sense.” Trump then responded to the video by thanking them and saying that he’d see the group in New Mexico. BIDEN UNVEILS 2 PROPOSALS TO HELP AMERICANS WITH DISABILITIES More than a year after he first announced his presidential bid, Joe Biden released two separate plans to support Americans with disabilities — one detailing his proposals for ensuring full equality for the disability community, and another focusing on supporting disabled Americans during the coronavirus pandemic. The first plan includes a wide-ranging list of issues that the presumed Democratic nominee plans to tackle as president, including recruiting disabled policymakers to play key roles in his administration, promoting inclusive education, and ending abuses of power in the pharmaceutical industry. 'RICH MITCH' BASHED IN NEW GOP LINCOLN PROJECT AD The never-Trump Republican group Lincoln Project has set its sights in a scathing new ad on Senate Majority Leader “Rich Mitch” McConnell of Kentucky, contrasting the plush life he’s forged for himself while in office with his state’s poor in various social metrics. The 60-second spot features several shots of the Republican’s signature cat-who-swallowed-the-canary smile while noting that he’s made tens of millions of dollars since first winning his Senate seat in 1984. McConnell, seeking his seventh term in November, has “spent most of his time making deals for himself — not so much for Kentucky,” the spot says. [HuffPost]
FLOYD'S DEATH RESURFACES KLOBUCHAR'S EASY-ON-COPS RECORD The death of George Floyd has resurrected Democratic Sen. Amy Klobuchar’s record as a prosecutor in the state ― including her tense relationship with the Black community there ― at the politically sensitive time that she’s being considered by Joe Biden to be his running mate. “There is absolutely no way that she is qualified to become Biden’s VP nominee,” said Nekima Levy Armstrong, a civil rights lawyer who served as head of the Minneapolis NAACP from 2015 to 2016. CHILD POVERTY PROJECTED TO RISE 15% IN 2020 Up to 86 million more children could live in poor households by the end of the year if countries don’t take more urgent action to address the economic crisis wrought by the coronavirus pandemic, reports UNICEF. Child poverty is projected to rise by 15% in 2020, largely due to the pandemic and its economic effects. The groups looked at World Bank data across more than 100 low- and middle-income countries. The report did not include higher-income countries, including the U.S., France, Japan. [HuffPost] |
