Plus, creative "change-the-dates"

Perhaps there was a honeymoon stage to your quarantine. Shacked up with your partner, hours at your disposal to do as you pleased… leisurely mornings in bed, sex whenever the mood struck. Or if you have kids at home, spending good, old-fashioned time as a family without the endless barrage of birthday parties and sports games to rush off to. And if you’re solo, time to read, get creative in the kitchen and DIY a few house projects.
But real talk: Reality has now set in. Everyone is getting on each others’ nerves. Petty disagreements about cooking at home vs. delivery have given way to fundamental differences in your approaches to going out in the world as lockdown restrictions begin to lift. Who is allowed back in your home? Is it OK for the kids to use public restrooms?
Couples’ therapists get an increase in calls after the winter holidays when families have been cooped up together — and they’re expecting that quarantine will have the same effect. Here’s why they say lockdown could make or break people’s relationships.

In mid-March, New Jersey-based photographer Danielle St. Laurent said she looked outside and saw her neighbor’s son staring out the window for a long time, “at what seemed like nothing in particular.” She was struck by how the coronavirus pandemic had totally changed her neighborhood. How were families processing the isolation? She decided to document the experience in a portrait series, taking pics of families in her neighborhood as they posed in their windows. The resulting photos are hauntingly beautiful. |
