The holidays can be a wonderful time filled with loads of family and friends. But it can also bring about meddling relatives asking intrusive questions or telling you how to live your life or parent your kids — and if you’re coupled up, that’s only after you and your partner hashed out whose family to spend the holidays with to begin with. It’s… a lot.

We talked to family therapists about the common issues people face around the holidays and how to deal with each (no, the solution is not just more wine!). With the holidays around the corner, you may want to take a look at this.

couple in bed

There are many sweet, little moments that go undocumented over the course of a relationship. Sure, many couples hire a photographer for the big stuff, like their weddings and new babies. But some of the best parts of being coupled up — like making pancakes together on a weekend morning or spooning in bed — remain memories and nothing more. Those are the types of private moments that Los Angeles-based artist Amanda Oleander likes to document in her work. “I’ve always been interested in how people behave and live behind closed doors,” she told HuffPost. “When it comes to [my husband] Joey and I, there are moments that I wish a photographer was there to capture, like cuddling on the couch or brushing our teeth together. So instead of a photo, I draw them.”
