I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday season!

Personally, I’m going into this year not with resolution, but with a word mantra of sorts: slow.

This year, I want to slow it all down. Put the phone down. Take better care of myself —physically, mentally, emotionally— and my relationships. Sit down and eat a meal with my husband, even if it’s in our PJs. Enjoy more time with friends. Take the time. Slow it down.

I’m hoping that if I can do this, I’ll be a better parent. More focused. More intentional. More fun. Slower. I figure it’s my version of 2020 self care. To that end, we’ll kick off a short series next week called Self Care Is Good Parenting, and we’ll focus on the many ways parents practice self-care, and how to do it better, especially during the time-starved days when your kids are young.

If you have any thoughts or questions, please let me know, as always, at katea@huffpost.com.

Until next week,

Kate

For when your kid is keeping you awake...

Did your kids spend the holidays vacillating between “this is the best present ever!” to “but I don’t want this!” too? If so, take a peek at this helpful article by Catherine Pearson about how to teach your kid etiquette, and by default, gratitude. Also, if you’re steadfast in your desire to have your kids write thank you notes for their holiday gifts (hey, it’s only January 6th!) read this piece by Brittany Wong about how to coax your kids into sending thank yous.
