Click here (Photo by REUTERS/Lucas Jackson) Now You Can Binge-watch Poetic JusticeI broke the news last year that Robin Wright demanded to be paid the same as co-star Kevin Spacey for her work on "House of Cards." Her character on the show, the devious and brilliant and always stiletto-clad Claire Underwood was more popular with viewers, she told her producers at the time. And, Wright got her equal pay. It was a bright spot considering that women on average make 80 percent of what men earn in the United States (and it's worse for women of color). Now that her costar's been tossed because of a swirl of sexual harassment and assault allegations, Wright will no longer be getting equal pay -- she'll be the best-paid actor on the show. Netflix announced Monday that she would take over the political drama's lead role for its final Spacey-less season. (Does this mean she'll do Spacey's trademark creepy voiceovers???) Too often, one terrible result of sexual harassment is that it pushes women out of jobs and even industries. And certainly that was the case for many of Spacey's victims. While there's no indication that Wright was harassed by her costar, it's affirming to know that the show goes on with her at the helm. The real-life plotline serves up some House of Cards-esque elements. But the ending is flavored with a tad more sweet justice than your typical dystopian hellscape of an episode For that vibe we can just look to 2017 politics, I guess.
