No Images? Click here This Year We Got Real MadWomen aren't supposed to be angry. Social conventions dictate we swallow our rage, bottle it up inside and let it out in just the most passive ways. We're supposed to be nice. If not, we're labeled crazy bitches. This year women said, well, screw that. And it's been wonderful. In January, women turned out for the largest single-day protest in U.S. history. Thousands of women ran for elected office. A lot of them won. And #MeToo has radically upended everything. At least 47 powerful men have been toppled this year after allegations emerged of sexual misconduct, including Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein, actor Kevin Spacey, federal judge Alex Kozinksi, TV host Charlie Rose, and Sen. Al Franken (D-Minn.).HuffPost's Emma Gray dubbed 2017, "The Year Women Found Their Rage" in this powerful piece from last month. If you're looking for more terrific writing about what happened this year, this column from Lindy West in the New York Times, "Yes, This Is a Witch Hunt. I'm a Witch and I'm Hunting You" is an absolute must-read. The title alone is kiss-the-fingers perfect, is it not?West's piece is included in this A+ roundup of the best women's writing of the year.
