We tested four meal kit services and one reigned supreme

Over the last few weeks, my colleague Casey Bond tried out four different meal kit services – and the results definitely varied. Though some services were better than others, Casey did save on groceries overall. And we’re all about savings this week: on groceries, prescriptions, and cable; at Whole Foods with a new Amazon Prime discount; and on a bank fee you may not even realize you’re charged. A penny saved is a penny earned, and there’s way more fun to be had with your money. Xx, Janie   Take back your life   Prescriptions can be expensive, and that’s true even with decent health insurance coverage. Turns out we overpay 23 percent of the time we check out at the pharmacy, but there’s a solution that’s as simple as asking a question. First, you have to understand what a clawback is: It’s when a patient’s insurance copayment is more than the actual cost of the drug to their insurer. (In other words, you might be paying a $10 copay on a medicine that only costs your health insurer $7, and the pharmacy is pocketing the $3 you could have saved.) Then you just have to remember to ask your pharmacist if a medication is cheaper without benefits. But that’s not the only trick: We’ve got 5 more ways to save money on prescription drugs, and all of them are handy and helpful.   Deal with it Keep your eyes peeled: You’ll soon get 10 percent off sale items at Whole Foods if you’re an Amazon Prime member. The discount program is already in place at stores in Florida, where Prime members simply scan an app at checkout, and it’s rolling out to the rest of the country this summer. Since Whole Foods was purchased by Amazon last year, the grocer has slashed prices twice, offered 5 percent cash back to customers paying with an Amazon Prime Visa, and joined Amazon to offer free two-hour grocery delivery in select cities, which they intend to expand this summer, too. Pro Tip: Cord-cutting just got easier for sports fans. Engadget gives high marks to the new ESPN+ streaming service, which is just $5 a month and seems especially handy for watching soccer, baseball and college football games that are typically only available on regional cable networks. The service also offers ESPN’s award-winning “30 for 30” series, too. Bonus: It’s available inside the main ESPN app, so you don’t have to have two separate icons on your phone.
