Brett Kavanaugh liked female law clerks to look a 'certain way'

A few years ago, as she was prepping to interview for a judicial clerkship, a student at Yale Law School received a troubling combination of warning and advice from her professors about one federal judge in particular: Brett Kavanaugh, she was told, liked his female clerks to have a “certain look.” The implication was -- they needed to be attractive, "like models."

I dove into this tale in a story for HuffPost we put out yesterday.

The awful message this student got back then was that to land this tippy-top job you have to be...pretty. I mean all women know that they have to be pretty. We learn this young, but still..some of us at least never believed that it's to-the-bone true.

Imagine being at Yale -- the very pinnacle of academic legal success -- and hearing that after all the hard work you put in to get where you are, you're back at high school, judged on how shiny your hair is.

And now Kavanaugh is on the precipice of becoming a lifetime appointee to the highest court in the land. He's facing serious and credible allegations from Christine Blasey Ford, who claims Kavanaugh sexually assaulted her when they were teenagers. (He denies it happened). Then there's also Kav's troubling membership in this particularly misogynist fraternity.

We already know how he feels about reproductive rights, but it's not hard to imagine how he'll rule on other women's issues.
