| | Between the impeachment hearings and the Democratic debates, it’s hard to escape politics these days. That includes on dating apps; most prompt you to list your political affiliation, and even if you don’t, there are subtle profile cues that signal to potential dates if you identify as red or blue. But what about purple? How do moderates fare on dating apps?
“When I see someone who has listed ‘moderate’ or ‘centrist’ as their political leaning on a dating app, I just assume that they’re too embarrassed to put Republican or right-wing,” a dater named Michael told senior reporter Brittany Wong. “The other thing I assume is that they lead such an insular life that they’re somehow unaware of the current state of our country. “How could anyone realistically be a moderate or centrist given the current state we’re in?”
Brittany talked to academics, online daters and people who list “moderate” on their profiles to find out how they’re perceived and what “moderate” really means.
