MODERATES SCRAMBLE AMIND SANDERS SURGE Sen. Bernie Sanders dominated his Democratic rivals in Nevada's caucuses, pulling far ahead of Joe Biden and Pete Buttigieg. His rivals responded by duly sharpening their focus on him. Buttigieg ripped Sanders’ for his massive and often combative online following. Biden, meanwhile, noted Sanders is an independent and not a member of the party he’s seeking to represent in November. [AP]


ITALIAN AUTHORITIES IMPOSE STRICT MEASURES OVER VIRUS 

Italy is battling Europe's largest coronavirus flare-up so far, with three people dying of the illness since Friday and more than 150 cases reported. Schools in affected areas were told to close, museums and cinemas shuttered, major sporting events postponed and Milan’s famous La Scala opera house was forced to cancel performances. Many have rushed to supermarkets to buy emergency supplies of food. [Reuters]


SOUTH KOREAN VIRUS CASES SURGE The number of coronavirus deaths has risen to 2,619 worldwide. There are more than 79,000 cases globally, and 27 deaths outside mainland China. South Korea announced 231 new cases today, with the nationwide total surging past 830. Over half of those are associated with a religious group. Iran's health ministry has confirmed 43 cases of the virus, including eight deaths. Lebanon and Israel have also reported their first cases. [CNN]


U.S. vs. ASSANGE AT EXTRADITION HEARING The U.S. government and WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange will face off Monday in a high-security London courthouse, a decade after WikiLeaks infuriated American officials by publishing a trove of classified military documents. The extradition hearing follows years of subterfuge, diplomatic dispute and legal drama that have led the 48-year-old Australian from self-imposed exile inside the Ecuadorian Embassy in London to incarceration in a maximum-security British prison. BUTTIGIEG CAMPAIN ALLEGES 'ERRORS' IN NEVADA Pete Buttigieg’s presidential campaign sent a letter to the Nevada Democratic Party alleging numerous “errors” and “inconsistencies” in the vote-counting process behind the state’s 2020 Democratic caucuses. Bernie Sanders won the state’s Democratic caucuses by a hefty margin. [HuffPost]


MAN CONVICTED OF KILLING 2 WHO TRIED TO STOP RACIST TIRADE Jeremy Christian, 37, who was accused of fatally stabbing two people who prosecutors say tried to stop his racist tirade against two young black women on a Portland, Oregon, commuter train was convicted of murder after an emotional trial that featured testimony from both women and the sole survivor of the attack nearly three years ago. His host, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has a wishlist for the trip too. With their own political careers facing new threats at home, the two ultra-nationalist leaders are putting on a show. MALAYSIA'S PRIME MINISTER RESIGNS Malaysian Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad submitted his resignation to the country's king on Monday, his office announced, a shock move that could plunge the country into political crisis. BULLYING VICTIM LEADS OUT ALL-STAR RUGBY TEAM Quaden Bayles went from having the “worst day of his life to the best day of his life” when he led an Australian national All-Star rugby league team onto the field on Saturday, his mom said.
