CORONAVIRUS DEATH TOLL SURPASSES1,100 The number of new coronavirus cases in China has fallen for a second day, but 97 new deaths pushed total fatalities to more than 1,100, with 45,000 people infected worldwide. A total of 175 cases have been confirmed on a cruise ship quarantined in Japan. More than 2,000 people are stranded on another cruise that was turned away from four ports. [AP]

Trump strengthened his zeal for revenge against government officials involved in his impeachment, suggesting that the military should consider disciplinary action against Lt. Col. AMERICAN WORKERS STRIKING IN HUGE NUMBERS U.S. workers continued to throw their weight around in a healthy economy in 2019, recording the largest number of major strikes in the decade. The U.S. saw 25 work stoppages involving at least 1,000 workers last year. That was the most of any year between 2010 and 2019, a time span in which the average was 15. [HuffPost]


VAPE-RELATED DEATHS RISE TO 64 The official number of people who have died after suffering from lung injuries linked to the use of vape pens and e-cigarettes has risen to 64. Four of those deaths occurred in the last three weeks, and more deaths are currently under investigation. A total of 2,758 hospitalizations have been reported to the CDC from across all 50 states, and D.C., Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands. MYSTERIOUS RADIO SIGNAL FROM SPACE REPEATS EVERY 16 DAYS Mysterious radio signals from space have been known to repeat, but for the first time, researchers have noticed a pattern in a series of bursts coming from a single source half a billion light-years from Earth. Between Sept. 16, 2018, and Oct. 30, 2019, researchers detected a pattern in bursts occurring every 16.35 days. [CNN]
