ASSOCIATED PRESS UNABLE TO DECLARE VICTORY IN IOWA The Associated Press said Thursday that it is unable to declare a winner of Iowa’s Democratic caucuses. With 97% of precincts reporting from Monday’s caucuses, former South Bend, Indiana, Mayor Pete Buttigieg leads Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders by three state delegate equivalents out of 2,098 counted. NEW HAMPSHIRE TAKING EVERY STEP TO AVOID CHAOS New Hampshire voters rarely rubber-stamp the results of the Iowa caucuses. And they won’t follow the lead of Iowa’s chaotic caucuses when votes are counted and reported from the state’s first-in-the-nation primary, state officials said. [AP]


JORDAN TAPPED AS TOP REPUBLICAN ON HOUSE JUDICIARY COMMITTEE Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio), one of Trump’s fiercest defenders in Congress, has been selected as the new ranking member of the House Judiciary Committee, according to multiple reports. CHINESE DOCTOR WHO SOUNDED ALARM ON CORONAVIRUS DEAD AT 34 A Chinese doctor who got in trouble with authorities in the communist country for sounding an early warning about the coronavirus outbreak has reportedly died after coming down with the illness. Dr. Li Wenliang, 34, was “unfortunately infected during the fight against the pneumonia epidemic of the new coronavirus infection,” according to the hospital's social media. [AP]

HOUSE DEMS PASS MAJOR REFORMS BOOSTING UNIONS The House passed a vote Thursday on a sweeping plan to overhaul U.S. workplace law in a way that could grow union membership and rejuvenate an ailing labor movement. The Protecting the Right to Organize Act, or PRO Act ― will face certain death in the GOP-controlled Senate. Even so, the bill could send a strong pro-union message to progressives. [HuffPost]


ROMNEY GETS LOVE FROM DEMOCRATS As Trump was in Washington celebrating his acquittal on impeachment charges, the Democratic presidential candidates were in New Hampshire largely ignoring the entire issue. But impeachment did come up ― from the voters. And Sen. Mitt Romney (Utah) was the talk of the town for being the only Republican to vote to convict Trump. [HuffPost]


EX-ETHICS CHIEF: THIS IS JUST THE START OF TRUMP'S AUTHORITARIANISM Walter Shaub late Thursday said: “we’re now in the heads-on-pikes phase of burgeoning authoritarianism” following the GOP-controlled Senate’s vote to acquit President Trump on impeachment charges. DEMOCRATS' PROSPECTS FOR UNITY BLEAKER THAN EVER A few months ago, Sanders appeared dead in the water. But while the establishment focused its energies on tackling Elizabeth Warren, who looked to be frontrunner Joe Biden's main rival, Sanders was retooling his operation. CRUSIUS FACES FEDERAL HATE CRIME CHARGES Nearly six months after a gunman slaughtered 22 people inside a Walmart in El Paso, Texas, a federal grand jury has indicted 21-year-old white supremacist Patrick Crusius on 90 counts, including hate crimes charges. [HuffPost]


FBI: THREAT OF RACIST EXTREMISTS ON PAR WITH ISIS “Racially motivated violent extremism” has been elevated to “a national threat priority” for the fiscal year 2020, FBI Director Christopher Wray told the House Judiciary Committee on Wednesday.
