While their locations and occupations may differ, both women share plenty in common. Not only have Trilby Barnes and Charlene Dukes broken barriers in their respective fields, they did so while combatting racism, raising children, rising above hatred and overcoming setbacks they faced on account of their race and gender.Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee of Texas.Cassandra Peoples went to the Tropical Smoothie Cafe in Gainesville on Wednesday and ordered her usual ― a $5.49 “Detox Island.” Peoples, 47, said the cashier made a point of asking her name, so she was shocked when she saw the receipt. Smh.“Quite frankly we saw this in this election, as far as I’m concerned. Any woman who voted against Hillary Clinton voted against their own voice in a way,” she said at Inbound marketing conference on Wednesday. “To me, it doesn’t say as much about Hillary Clinton ― and everybody’s trying to wonder. Well, what does it mean for Hillary? ― No, no, no. What does it mean for us as women? That we look at those two candidates, as women, and many of us said, ‘That guy. He’s better for me. His voice is more true to me.’ Well, to me that just says you don’t like your voice. You like the thing you’re told to like.”More than 2,300 people have signed a petition, created by local collective Central Track, demanding that the park should be named after the “On and On” singer who is originally from Dallas.
