The film, starring Viggo Mortensen and Mahershala Ali, was inspired by a true story of white nightclub bouncer Tony “Lip” Vallelonga protecting black concert pianist Don Shirley in the Deep South in the 1960s. Ali won Best Supporting Actor for the film. Spike Lee was also a winner, collecting his first Oscar in the Adapted Screenplay category for his work on “BlacKkKlansman,” while Olivia Colman won Best Actress for “The Favourite,” Rami Malek took home Best Actor for his turn as Freddy Mercury in “Bohemian Rhapsody,” and Alfonso Cuarón won Best Director for “Roma.” Here are all the winners.
