If you work for a sizable company or government entity, there’s a big chance you’re forgetting to check your internal HR site for money-saving perks. Typically, these deals start with discounted gym memberships, but they can extend to airlines, major department stores, hotel chains, clothing websites, and even contact lens retailers. I’d worked at HuffPost for a couple years before I looked up the offers our parent company arranges with national vendors. Turned out, there are a ton — and many of them are places I shop all the time.

Over the last few years, I’ve saved a whopping $1,257 on items or services I already planned to buy — I got $10 off my regular online tax prep package, $72 off a new mattress, 8 percent off a big international flight, and 10 percent off every Sephora order (you know that adds up). I was even able to get hassle-free renter’s insurance from a company that normally doesn’t cover my state. Don’t let another day pass before checking your own HR benefits, if you have them. While some discounts are small, they definitely add up over time.
