Williams said her pregnancy was relatively easy, but the complications began when her daughter was born via C-section after Williams’ heart rate dropped. The next day the tennis great, who has a history of blood clots, told doctors she was having a pulmonary embolism (blockage that occurs in the lungs, usually due to blood clots). Sure enough, CT scans showed blood clots in her lungs and she began treatment. Williams told Vogue she couldn’t get out of bed for six weeks. And once she began recovering, she said she found out just how challenging motherhood can be. “Sometimes I get really down and feel like, man, I can’t do this,” the 36-year-old told the magazine. “It’s that same negative attitude I have on the court sometimes. I guess that’s just who I am. No one talks about the low moments ―the pressure you feel, the incredible letdown every time you hear the baby cry.” Viola Davis made a few striking statements with her beautiful Afro and her poignant words on the 2018 Golden Globes red carpet Sunday. The actress had a specific message for anyone struggling with sexual assault.“There’s no prerequisites to worthiness,” Davis said. “You’re born worthy, and I think that’s a message a lot of women need to hear. The women who are still in silence because of trauma, shame, due to the assault ― they need to understand that it’s not their fault and they’re not dirty.”Black artists have stepped up to create new versions of a racist H&M ad after the brand drew criticism for a photo on its website. The original photo showed a black boy modeling a green hoodie reading “coolest monkey in the jungle.” The image drew ire on social media, with celebrities and activists denouncing the brand. Amid the backlash, black celebrities and creatives have stepped up to do what they do best: turn a horrible situation into a reason to celebrate. They took to photoshop, sketchbooks and more to reimagine the boy in the photo with crowns and pure black boy joy. See more of our favorite remixes of the H&M image here.
