HuffPost’s Kristen Adaway looked into the deets on DEET, the main ingredient found in bug spray that some believe is toxic for your health. Here’s what you need to know:  The component isn’t really dangerous. Experts stress the most effective way to combat those pesky bugs is to douse yourself in DEET (so, basically any common insect repellent you find in the store). Be be mindful of how much you’re using. It can become unsafe if you don’t apply it properly or if you apply a higher concentration of it than necessary. The concentration of DEET tells you how long the repellant will protect you from insects, and you can check the concentration amount by looking for the percentage on the front of the bottle or can.
