That was the nadir of Trump’s Helsinki meeting with the Russian president — a press conference so “shameful,” “calamitous” and “unprecedented” that even members of the GOP and some Fox News personalities refused to defend him. Remarkably, an early campaign video has surfaced showing then-presidential candidate Trump telling an activist at the libertarian FreedomFest in Las Vegas that he’d likely drop sanctions against Russia if elected.
