McConnell, whose greatest legacy is denying a Supreme Court seat and dozens of other federal judgeships to President Barack Obama, said the rule change is necessary because of Democrats’ “unprecedented obstruction” of Trump’s nominees. Richard Neal (D-Mass.) can ask for copies of Trump’s federal tax returns whenever he wants, but seemingly doesn’t care if Democrats don’t get the documents before the next election. Though the law is clear that the treasury secretary is supposed to hand over returns requested by the chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee, Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin has all but said he’ll disobey the law, meaning there will be a court fight. [HuffPost]BIDEN RESPONDS TO KISS CLAIM Former Vice President Joe Biden has responded to allegations that he displayed inappropriate affection toward a former Nevada assemblywoman, saying that in his years as a public figure, “not once ― never ― did I believe I acted inappropriately.” Biden’s response follows Lucy Flores’ accusation that he touched and kissed the back of her head without her consent in 2014 during an appearance with her to aid her unsuccessful campaign for Nevada lieutenant governor. [HuffPost]TEEN FATALLY SHOT AFTER KNOCKING ON WRONG DOOR A Georgia man is facing murder charges after police said he shot a 19-year-old who mistakenly knocked on his apartment front door looking for his girlfriend. “A verbal exchange ensued between the two parties and at some point, the resident produced a handgun and shot the victim,” the Atlanta Police Department said in a release. [HuffPost]ACLU PREPARED TO SPEND $30 MILLION ON 2020 ELECTION The American Civil Liberties Union is pushing 2020 presidential candidates to commit to cutting the federal prison population in half and to allow incarcerated people to vote, part of a $30 million push to shape elections and advance civil libertarian ideas over the next two years. It has used its rapidly expanding membership and budget during the Trump era to get increasingly involved in electoral politics. [HuffPost]FEDS FEAR LONG-TERM EFFECTS OF TRUMP’S FBI ATTACKS Trump, who has called the special counsel team a “National Disgrace” and Mueller a “conflicted prosecutor gone rogue,” said Monday that he thought Mueller had acted honorably. “Total exoneration,” he falsely said of a report that explicitly says it “does not exonerate” the president. The law enforcement community worries that the sudden shift in Trump’s rhetoric won’t soon erase the long-term consequences of the president’s repeated attacks on the Justice Department and the FBI. [HuffPost]SANDERS FLOATS 50-PERCENT PRESCRIPTION PRICE CUT Sen.
