Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) called out the problem of the disproportionately high rate of maternal mortality for black women and laid out a plan to address it. “I want to talk to the hospitals ... in the language they understand: money,” she said. [HuffPost]U.S. MEASLES HITS MILESTONE The U.S. is dealing with the largest outbreak of measles since the disease was declared eliminated in 2000, according to an analysis by CNN. As of this week, there have been 681 measles cases across 22 states, the network reported, citing data from state and local health departments. [HuffPost]FLORIDA LAWMAKERS AIM TO RESTRICT VOTING ACCESS The Florida House approved a controversial measure requiring people with felony convictions to pay all financial requirements of their sentencing before they can vote again. He also has a history of sexist and offensive remarks about women and the LGBTQ community. Moore objects to the idea that his past comments warrant scrutiny, saying critics are “pulling a Kavanaugh against me.” [HuffPost]REPUBLICAN CHALLENGER: TRUMP SHOULD RESIGN Former Massachusetts Gov. Bill Weld, who is challenging Trump in the Republican presidential primary, is calling on the president to resign. “If Donald Trump is an American patriot, he should resign from office,” the GOP challenger wrote. [HuffPost]KIM JONG UN SEEKS FRIEND IN PUTIN North Korean leader Kim Jong Un and Russian President Vladimir Putin met at a summit on Thursday intended to show Washington is not the only power with enough clout to engage with Pyongyang on its nuclear program. [Reuters]PRO-GOV FORCES KILL MOST AFGHAN CIVILIANS Afghan and international forces were responsible for more civilian deaths in the first three months of 2019 than the Taliban and other militants, a new U.N. report said. It marks the first time in recent years that civilian deaths attributed to government forces and their allies exceeded those blamed on their enemies. [AP]
