No Images? Click here Welcome to your weekly dose of black newsHappy Friday Eve, y'all!Let's start with some good news this week. If you haven't already started learning the Beyoncé slide, now is the time! Aside from the dance challenge to her "Before I Let Go" cover going viral, Frankie Beverly said he was "blown away," by her version of his iconic song. "It’s a blessing. It’s amazing how she works, she’s very smart. I’m caught off guard, but in a beautiful way,” he told Billboard. I'm just happy we have new cookout music! (Oh, and her daddy is trying to create a Destiny's Child musical for Broadway.OK, now on to the trash. Schools have had black kids — and parents — messed up recently. In Houston, Texas, a high school implemented a dress code for parents. Carlotta Outley Brown, the principal of James Madison High School, sent a letter home earlier this month detailing a list of prohibited clothing items included satin caps, “house shoes,” pajamas, sagging pants and hair rollers. Those who didn't abide by the dress code wouldn't be permitted in the school. This controversial news has caused a lot of conversation on social media and I want to hear what y'all think. Keep scrolling to chime in below. At another Texas school, an administrator made a middle school-aged black student fill in the shaved part in his hair with a black marker. The administrator has since been put on leave but this calls into question who dress codes are for and also who they target.
It's also worth noting that the presidential race is heating up on the Democrat side, with Kamala Harris calling for Congress to move forward on the impeachment of Trump and Elizabeth Warren proposing a plan to wipeout student loan debt for many Americans. Former Vice President Joe Biden also threw his hat into the ring and also (finally) apologized to Anita Hill for mishandling how her testimony of allegedly being sexually violated by Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas. Hill spoke to the Times in an interview published today that she “cannot be satisfied by simply saying I’m sorry for what happened to you. She continued, “I will be satisfied when I know there is real change and real accountability and real purpose.”This week's best things 🎉 Tamron Hall announces birth of baby boy MosesCongrats to the TV host and her husband on the birth of baby Moses! 🤗Georgia Church, T.I. and Scrapp Deleon post bail for nonviolent offendersNew Birth Missionary Baptist Church partnered with the rapper and the TV personality to raise enough money to bail out 23 nonviolent offenders so they could spend Easter with their families.Me Too founder Tarana Burke makes clear that the movement isn't just for womenBurke wants the current movement to be more inclusive to people of all genders. “Yes, it was women that came forward and talked about it.
