U.S. JUDGES CALL URGENT MEETING OVER TRUMP, BARR FEARS The Federal Judges Association, which has about 1,100 members, is holding an emergency meeting today to address concerns about the interventions in politically sensitive cases by Barr and Trump. Trump attacked federal prosecutors’ sentencing recommendation for his longtime pal and convicted felon Roger Stone, and soon after the Justice Department pulled back the recommendation. [HuffPost]


HOW CHINA CRIMINALIZED MUSLIM FAITH A database obtained by The Associated Press profiles the internment of 311 individuals with relatives abroad and lists information on more than 2,000 of their relatives, neighbors and friends. It offers the fullest and most personal view yet into how Chinese officials decided who to put into and let out of detention camps, as part of a massive crackdown that has locked away more than a million ethnic minorities, most of them Muslims. WUHAN HOSPITAL DIRECTOR DIES FROM CORONAVIRUS The coronavirus has infected more than 73,000 people around the world, mostly in mainland China. The death toll is 1,873, including five people outside mainland China. Liu Zhiming, head of the Wuchang hospital in Wuhan, died from the virus this morning. Several countries are sending flights for their citizens onboard the Diamond Princess cruise ship quarantined in Japan. [CNN]


JEFF BEZOS PLEDGES $10 BILLION TO FIGHT CLIMATE CHANGE 

Amazon’s chief executive, Jeff Bezos, is pledging $10 billion to help fight climate change. He announced on Instagram that he would launch “the Bezos Earth Fund.” “Climate change is the biggest threat to our planet. I want to work alongside others both to amplify known ways and to explore new ways of fighting the devastating impact of climate change,” Bezos wrote. [HuffPost]


'KNOCKOFF' REMBRANDT TURNS OUT TO BE REAL THING Thanks to modern technology and some expert detective work, a nearly 400-year-old painting that had long been attributed to an unknown artist in Rembrandt’s workshop has now been judged to have been a work of the Dutch master himself. [AP]

BOY SCOUTS FILE FOR BANKRUPTCY AMID ABUSE ALLEGATIONS The Boy Scouts of America filed for bankruptcy amid allegations of rampant sexual abuse by scout leaders, employees and volunteers. “The BSA cares deeply about all victims of abuse and sincerely apologizes to anyone who was harmed during their time in Scouting.,” Roger Mosby, the president of Boy Scouts of America, said in a statement. BOLTON WORRIED WHITE HOUSE COULD SUPPRESS HIS BOOK John Bolton, Trump’s former national security adviser, suggested that he was worried the administration could try to bury details about his time in the White House as it reviews the manuscript for his highly anticipated memoir. “I hope it’s not suppressed,” Bolton reportedly said during a 90-minute appearance at Duke University.

BLOOMBERG MAKES NEVADA DEBATE Billionaire Michael Bloomberg qualified for Wednesday's Democratic debate in Nevada after a major poll showed him second to Sen. Bernie Sanders. 'NO POLITICAL COST' TO SUPREME COURT EXPANSION Expanding the Supreme Court would not be politically costly for Democrats, according to an academic survey commissioned by a group that supports the idea. Aside from that, candidate endorsement has no statistically significant impact on actual behavior, including the likelihood of voting or the likelihood of voting for a Democratic or Republican candidate. In other words, when Democratic candidates endorse court expansion, there is no impact on election results. [HuffPost]
