| | Last week, senior reporter Catherine Pearson wrote a story titled “Why ‘Mommy Juice’ Is Total BS” as part of our Self-Care Is Good Parenting package, and BOY did you guys have thoughts.
The piece began as an homage of sorts to wine. Both Catherine (also a mom of two boys) and I generally subscribe to the “you-do-you” school of self-care. And as Catherine herself noted, “Sipping wine after my young, demanding kids go to bed — and after I’ve put in a full day’s work — is one of the few relaxing moments I get in a day. Isn’t that, like, the definition of an act of self-care?” But as she spoke with now-sober moms who were once proponents of the “mommy wine” culture, she came to believe that it’s not a form of self-care at all.
The piece sparked a lot of conversation online and among the moms in our newsroom — some pissed at us for the “judgment” mixed with some (small amounts) of praise. If you missed it, I’m curious to hear what you think. I’m always here at katea@huffpost.com.

| I loved the simple concept of this photojournalism piece by The Washington Post called “The Disposables.” Basically, they sent disposable cameras to 25 women across the country and had them take pictures of their everyday life. I enjoyed the breeziness but also how it looks solely through the eyes of the (camera) beholder. |
