At this point Donald Trump's been publicly accused of some kind of sexual misconduct by 23 women.The latest allegation comes from author E. Jean Carroll.In an excerpt from her upcoming book, published in New York Magazine, Carroll tells the story. She ran into Trump at Bergdorf Goodman in Manhattan in the 1990s. She was 52 years old at the time, just two years older than him. They bantered. He said he needed help picking out a gift for a woman, pressured her into trying on lingerie and then forced himself into her dressing room where he raped her. It is a violent and shocking story. She said she hasn't been with a man since.Trump denied the allegation in the most absurd (and misogynistic) way, claiming in an interview that Carroll is "not my type."“If your denial leaves people thinking there is a type of woman you would rape, that’s not a good denial,” Trevor Noah wisely pointed out.As my colleague, Emma Gray writes, the reaction to all of this was essentially "muted exhaustion, exasperation and despair."The New York Times didn't even deign to put the story in its news section.
