U.S. VIRUS DEATH TOLL CLIMBS TO 6 IN WASHINGTON STATE Six people have died in Washington state as the United States grapples with more than 100 cases of the disease caused by the novel coronavirus. Four of the people who died were residents at the Life Care Center nursing care facility in suburban Seattle. Four other coronavirus cases are also linked to the Life Care Center. [CNN]
CORONAVIRUS REACHES 'UNCHARTED TERRITORY' The head of the World Health Organization said that public health officials are operating in "uncharted territory" as they combat the spread of the novel coronavirus, which has infected more than 90,000 people across 73 countries and territories. To date, there have been 172 deaths reported outside mainland China, raising the global death toll to 3,115. [CNN]
TORNADOES KILL 2 IN NASHVILLE At least two tornadoes touched down early Tuesday in central Tennessee, killing two people and damaging dozens of structures. A tornado near downtown Nashville reportedly stayed on the ground into Hermitage, about 10 miles east of the city. Police officers and fire crews were responding to about 40 building collapses around the city. [AP]
CHRIS MATTHEWS QUITS MSNBC OVER SEXIST REMARKS MSNBC’s “Hardball” host Chris Matthews announced on air Monday that he’s resigning amid renewed criticism of his sexist behavior -- leaving a stunned Steve Kornacki to take over, live. “After conversation with MSNBC, I decided tonight will be my last ‘Hardball,’” the veteran cable host said, saying he wanted to bow to a younger generation with “better standards than we grew up with."
