No Images? Click here Welcome to your weekly dose of black newsHappy Saturday, fam! First off, HuffPost interviewed Democratic presidential candidate Cory Booker about his views on allowing some prisoners to vote, the 1994 Crime Bill, impeachment and reforming the Supreme Court. 2020 is closer than we think, folks, so get into it! In other news, R. Kelly is facing new charges three months after prosecutors in Cook County, Illinois, filed 10 similar counts against him in a wide-ranging investigation of the singer’s long-rumored sexual misconduct. If convicted on these charges, he could face six to 30 years in prison. Also in Chicago, Jussie Smollett's case documents have been released by the department. The documents include 450 pages of case reports, which officials will "begin working on redaction for supplementary materials including hand written detective notes, subpoena records and ancillary material," which will be completed by next week. If you're looking for something to watch this weekend, your cup runneth over. Allow me to deviate from the norm to give my personal ranking of what you should watch: 1. Ava DuVernay's "When They See Us:" I spoke to the director on making the film and ensuring folks really see the Central Park Five since they were robbed of that as young boys. Be sure to check out Zeba Blay's piece on it, too. 2. "Ma" starring Octavia Butler: In this thriller, the Academy Award-winner gets to terrorize a group of white teens and honestly, that's convincing enough. 3. "Carmen: A Hip-Hopera" starring Beyoncé and Mekhi Phifer: I've honestly been looking for a good quality version of this film online for years and apparently I'm not alone. No, I don't want to hear any critics of this film. This is for nostalgic enjoyment. Let us have nice things. 4. Drake at the NBA Playoff Finals: With LeBron James out of the NBA's Eastern Conference, the Toronto Raptors finally made it to the finals to face the Golden State Warriors. Now I'm excited about this series not only because I'm ready to see Golden State shook up a little, but because of Drake's antics. This man has been acting a plump fool on the sidelines and I'm so entertained. He's truly a walking meme. And I'm 100 percent sure we're getting new music if the Raptors' luck continues. 😂 Happy watching, y'all!
