Click here   By Paul Vale     Monday, October 22 RUSSIA: TRUMP TREATY EXIT A ‘DANGEROUS STEP’ Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov called the U.S. withdrawal from the Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces Treaty “a very dangerous step.” President Donald Trump said over the weekend he was scrapping the Cold War-era pact because of Russian violations. [HuffPost] [Tweet | Share on Facebook] SAUDI TRIES NEW KHASHOGGI EXPLANATION A Saudi official floated a new story about Jamal Khashoggi’s death, saying a team of 15 Saudi nationals were sent to confront the journalist. They threatened to drug and kidnap him and then killed him in a chokehold when he resisted. The Saudi Foreign Minister later called the death a" rogue operation"  and a “tremendous mistake” during an appearance on Fox News. [HuffPost] MIGRANT CARAVAN ARRIVES AT BORDER CITY A caravan of thousands of Honduran migrants crowded into the Mexican border city of Tapachula, setting up impromptu camps in public spaces. Trump has made clear the group, bound for the U.S., is not welcome. Conservative columnist Max Boot called out Trump and Fox News for “demagoguery,” “racism” and “nativism” in their comments about the migrants. [Reuters] HOUSE DEMS EYE RUSSIA PROBE House Democrats will reopen the investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 election if they win the majority in November. However, New York Times columnist Paul Krugman thinks the White House will just ignore any legal subpoenas issued from a Democratic-led House. [HuffPost] NEW RIGHT-WING SITE WORSE THAN BREITBART Right-wing outlet Big League Politics, which falsely blamed Heather Heyer’s death in Charlottesville, Virginia, on a North Carolina professor, is where Trump voters go if they find Breitbart too mild. [HuffPost] TRUMP PLOTS TRANSGENDER RIGHTS ROLLBACK The White House is reportedly planning to define gender as a biological, immutable condition determined at birth — the latest administration move to roll back transgender protection under federal law. Civil rights organizations and members of the LGBTQ community were stunned and furious by the report. [The New York Times]         TRUMP ‘ACOLYTE’ SLAMMED IN FLORIDA Ron DeSantis’ association with Trump was repeatedly brought up by Andrew Gillum in the first Florida governor’s debate. “Donald Trump is weak,” said the Democrat. “And he performs as all weak people do: They become bullies, and Mr. DeSantis is his acolyte. He’s trying out to be the Trump apprentice at every turn.” [HuffPost] BETO WON’T BITE BACK Rep. Beto O’Rourke refused to respond to Trump’s personal attacks, saying he would rather “stay focused on the future.” Trump tweeted last week that O’Rourke was “a Flake” and “a total lightweight.” The Democratic nominee for Senate in Texas said: “The kind of bitterness and the name-calling and partisanship that has unfortunately defined so much of the national conversation, you can add more to it or you can stay focused on the future.” [HuffPost] GOP BRACES FOR LEADERSHIP FIGHT With no clear successor to House Speaker Paul Ryan, Republicans face a messy leadership battle after the midterms.
