[HuffPost]BETO CAN’T TOPPLE TED Democrat Beto O’Rourke’s Texas bid for the Senate ended in defeat, dashing progressive hopes of removing Ted Cruz. O’Rourke delivered an emotional concession speech after his midterm loss that included an F-bomb. [HuffPost]FLORIDA PASSES VOTING RIGHTS AMENDMENT Floridians approved a constitutional amendment to automatically restore voting rights to people with felony convictions once they complete their sentences, a historic expansion of the right to vote to about 1.4 million people. [HuffPost]HISTORIC NIGHT FOR DIVERSITY Colorado voters elected Jared Polis, making him the first openly gay man to win governor. Democrat Ayanna Pressley won her House race in Massachusetts’ 7th District, becoming the state’s first black woman elected to Congress. Democrats Rashida Tlaib in Michigan and Ilhan Omar in Minnesota won their races for House seats, becoming the first Muslim women elected to Congress. And Democrats Deb Haaland and Sharice Davids will become the first female indigenous candidates heading to House after wins in New Mexico and Kansas. [HuffPost]TRUMP ALLY KOBACH DEFEATED Democratic state Sen. Laura Kelly won the Kansas governor’s race, defeating Secretary of State Kris Kobach, a hard-right Trump ally. [HuffPost]KAVANAUGH VOTE COSTS HEITKAMP Republican Rep. Kevin Cramer defeated Democratic Sen. Heidi Heitkamp in the race for North Dakota’s Senate seat. Her ouster follows her surprise vote against Brett Kavanaugh’s confirmation to the Supreme Court. [HuffPost]INDICTED HUNTER WINS California Republican Rep. Duncan Hunter, who has been indicted on charges of using campaign funds for personal expenses, defeated Democratic challenger Ammar Campa-Najjar, after a racist campaign that painted his opponent as a “radical Muslim.” Also in California, Republican Devin Nunes, best known for sabotaging a congressional probe into ties between the Trump campaign and Russia, won re-election, defeating Democratic prosecutor Andrew Janz.[HuffPost]ROMNEY HEADS TO WASHINGTON Mitt Romney completed a remarkable political comeback, with voters in Utah electing the one-time Massachusetts governor and 2012 Republican presidential nominee as the state’s next senator. [HuffPost]OCASIO-CORTEZ ELECTED Progressive Democrat Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez won her race for a U.S. House seat in New York’s 14th District, becoming the youngest woman ever elected to Congress. Steve King, a white supremacist, won a ninth term in Congress despite months of growing outrage over his bigoted statements and ties to extremist figures in the U.S. and overseas. [HuffPost]QUEER BUSINESSWOMAN BEATS BIGOT Republican Rep. Jason Lewis lost his re-election bid for Minnesota’s 2nd Congressional District to queer businesswoman Angie Craig. Many of Lewis’ incendiary comments about black Americans and women from his days as a radio host resurfaced ahead of the vote. [HuffPost]
