No Images? Click here Welcome to your weekly dose of black newsWhew. This was quite the election week. Black women showed up and showed out at the polls, per usual, and our impact could be felt throughout the country with monumental firsts for Massachusetts Congresswoman-elect Ayanna Pressley, New York's Letitia James, Illinois' Lauren Underwood and Minnesota's Ilhan Omar. But yet again, racism and voter suppression reared its ugly head, prompting Florida gubernatorial candidate Andrew Gillum (who would've been the first black governor of the state) to concede and the Georgia race for governor to potentially go into a runoff. If Stacey Abrams wins, she will be the country's first black female governor. Ugliness also showed up on our timelines when Twitter called out the trend of white women wearing different variation of blackface and altering their features and hair to gain clout on social media. Chile this is a whole mess. Not only is it tremendously offensive, but they look ridiculous. Check out Zeba Blay's take on it. Meanwhile black women finding solutions to infertility had not one, but two huge moments this week. Gabrielle Union and Dwayne Wade welcomed their newborn daughter, who they conceived via surrogate. And Forever First Lady Michelle Obama revealed that she had the miscarriage and the IVF treatments that she and husband Barack Obama experienced before becoming parents. Both Gabby and Michelle's story are crucial and could make a world of difference for black women who face the same issues. More of this please!
