Click here 'Sexism Is A Huge Part Of This'There was an historic four-hour long hearing today in Congress on one of the most important policy issues of our time: paid family leave.The U.S. is the only industrialized country in the world that doesn't guarantee paid time off to new mothers. And most offer leave to fathers, too. It's truly one of the worst examples of American exceptionalism, and certainly is one of the reasons that women's participation in the labor force in the U.S. lags behind other countries. (A few states do have policies.) The hearing today was a good sign that we're slowly making progress towards joining the rest of the world on this. Indeed, paid leave has a shot of passing the House. Still, you're far more likely to read coverage of moonshot policies like the Green New Deal or Medicare for All than you are to hear about paid family and medical leave.
