What are the rules of 'patriarchy chicken' anyway?

Click here   I’ve been thinking a lot about this piece, “How I Am Teaching My Small Daughters To Play Patriarchy Chicken,” which ran on HuffPost Personal late last week. he writer describes going through life with her young daughters by her side, and how she’s felt experiencing all the microaggressions women face every day through their eyes. It’s a thought-provoking piece, and it’s caused me to think even more about playing “patriarchy chicken” with my young sons. I am, as I’m sure you know by now, an avowed feminist who refuses to apologize for taking up space in the world. And while that’s true, I still go through life as a woman in society. As such, I’m sure my children watch me as I, too, play patriarchy chicken. So what are the lessons they’re gleaning from my behavior? When we’re grocery shopping and I constantly apologize, or when we’re walking down the street, taking up space and I’m overly apologetic, what are they learning? They’re not old enough to understand the nuances of patriarchy chicken, but will they have picked up on enough to help inform them of their behavior later on?
