But yesterday I got distracted, trying to finish this story about Alabama ---and also make it home on time to see my kid in the school play.*So, Alabama: Yesterday the state's Republican governor Kay Ivey signed an abortion ban into law. This law is illegal, but the plan is to get it to the Supreme Court -- where newly minted Trump appointees could take the hatchet to Roe v. Wade.My story didn't get into the new law, but my colleagues have you covered if you want to learn more. About who passed the bill (a gaggle of Republican men), what you can do to fight against these draconian laws, and what's next.I took a look at the economic picture for women in Alabama. It's a poor state to begin with -- but women, mothers in particular, are faring terribly. If this is a state that is truly "pro-life," then they have a funny way of showing it.*I made it!
