No Images? Click here Welcome to your weekly dose of black newsHappy Friday y'all! Once again, we had a relatively heavy week with Alabama's state senate passing the strictest abortion bill in the country on Tuesday. The bill was penned by a white woman and each of the 25 votes to ban it was made by white men. Though it hasn't been passed into law, this is a major threat to Roe v. Wade and an attack on us all, especially marginalized women. Though the Kamala Harris, who compared the law to "The Handmaid's Tale," raised $160,000 for abortion groups in the aftermath of the vote. The 2020 presidential candidate also revealed to HuffPost's own Julia Craven her plan to combat the black maternal mortality rate. "Every day we wait, every day we don’t address it, is a day that a mother could possibly die," she told Julia. Her bill, the Maternal CARE Act, will be introduced in the coming weeks. Also, Texas cops were wildin' the hell out this week and water is wet. In Houston, a police officer tried to arrest Clarence Evans, a black man who was mistaken for a different person, in his own yard without an arrest. Evans repeatedly tried to tell the cop that he wasn't the person he was looking for until the cops leaves and tells Evans he'll be filing a report. The viral video has been making its rounds and it's absolutely infuriating. What's even more infuriating is the fate of a 45-year-old Texas woman who was fatally shot after struggle with an officer's Taser. The cop fired five shots at the woman moments after she yelled "I'm pregnant," in an effort to save her own life. The fight for our lives has become so routine. And so damn tiring... Y'all know I like to end on a lighter note here. One thing that's been keeping me sane in these trying times is music. And there was so much good music that dropped today! I'm personally had Megan Thee Stallion's "Fever" and Tyler, the Creator's "Igor" in heavy rotation all day. We were also blessed to see an angel in Nipsey Hussle's final music video, DJ Khaled's "Higher" featuring John Legend. Ahead of the release, Khaled committed to giving the proceeds from the song to Nipsey's children. 💙🏁 Also, we final got a video for Lil Nas X and Billy Ray Cyrus' "Old Town Road" and I STAN.
