It’s not uncommon to reference mental health terms in a casual manner. (For example, claiming “I’m so depressed!” when your favorite TV show goes off the air.) The intention behind it may be totally harmless but, honestly, it’s doing more damage than you think. Reporter Jenna Birch broke down one of the worst offenders this week. Got a spare minute? This week’s tip comes from “This Is Us” star Sterling K. Brown, who partnered with the campaign Survivorship Today to bring awareness to what it’s like to live with cancer. Here are the two simple habits he practices each day in order to feel happier and healthier: Meditation is key. I try to get 20 minutes in at the top of my day. It just sets me up for success. If you don’t give yourself the time to find your center, anything that comes your way can throw you off track relatively easily. When I take that time to set that focus, the day goes so much better. I also drink a lot of water. [My character on ‘This Is Us’] sheds a lot of tears, so water in and water out.
