[Reuters]RAPE VICTIM ACQUITTED OF STILLBORN MURDER A young rape victim who was suspected of having an abortion and charged with homicide has been acquitted by a judge at a retrial. Evelyn Beatriz Hernandez, now 21, had served 33 months of a 30-year prison sentence when her conviction was overturned in February for lack of evidence and a new trial was ordered. [AP]FIRST HOUSE GOP-ER TO BACK ASSAULT WEAPONS BAN Rep. Pete King of New York on Monday became the first House Republican to back an assault weapons ban, joining 200 Democratic co-sponsors. The bill, titled The Assault Weapons Ban of 2019, was introduced in February by Rep. David Cicilline (D-R.I.). [HuffPost]ISIS GATHERS STRENGTH Five months after American-backed forces ousted the Islamic State from its last shard of territory in Syria, the terrorist group is gathering new strength, conducting guerrilla attacks across Iraq and Syria, retooling its financial networks and targeting new recruits at an allied-run tent camp.
