[AP]TRUMP ‘SUGGESTED NUKING HURRICANES’ Trump reportedly suggested “multiple times” that Homeland Security and military officials explore using nuclear bombs to stop hurricanes from striking the United States. According to an unnamed source, he said: “We drop a bomb inside the eye of the hurricane and it disrupts it. Why can’t we do that?” [HuffPost]YOUNG MIAMI CUBANS WARM TO SOCIALISM While more than half of Americans rejected socialism in a recent Gallup poll, 43% surveyed said some version of it would be good for the country. That sentiment was held by 58% of respondents ages 18 to 34, compared with just 36% of those 55 and older. And it’s growing among Miami’s young Cubans. [AP]CONTROVERSIAL FORMER SHERIFF RUNS AGAIN Joe Arpaio, the notorious former Arizona sheriff who was pardoned by Trump for criminal contempt in 2017, announced a bid to reclaim his old job. Arpaio was convicted in 2017 for violating a 2011 order that barred him from detaining people based merely on his suspicions about their immigration status. [AP]EU WILL RETALIATE IF TRUMP TAXES FRENCH WINE European Council President Donald Tusk warned the European Union will retaliate if Trump pushes forward with his threatened tariff on French wine, further ratcheting up global trade tensions.
