No Images? Click here It's been a fairly news heavy week. As the BJP government abrogated Article 370, Bollywood producers rushed to local industry bodies to register movie titles around the event. Not quite surprising as producers had done a similar thing during the Pulwama attacks. Now, let's see if any of these movies actually make it to the floors. Given the recent National Award victory for Uri, it's likely that we'd be seeing more jingoism on screen.Over the past week, I hung out with current sensation Ayushmann Khuranna for a chat at Mumbai's Yash Raj studios. In a refreshing departure from the usual, the actor accepted the many problems with his last release, Article 15, and also spoke candidly about the growing polarisation in Bollywood.I also spoke to Shabana Azmi on how she's prepping for the Steven Spielberg-produced show, Halo. Among other things, she told me how her nephew reacted to the news and it's the most millennial response ever. Finally, I sat through the painful Jabariya Jodi just so that you don't to. Here's my review of the film.Like this newsletter, hate it? Write to me @aktalkiesHaving carved a space for himself as an actor who’s both affable and accessible, Khurrana is part of the new order in Bollywood, a wave of actors who are challenging the star system, dominated by legacy players, by infusing the industry with adventurous narratives. In this interview, the actor speaks about the triumphs and failings of Article 15, the right-wing populism that’s consuming Bollywood and what stardom looks like from the top.The 66th edition of the National Film Awards, considered to be one of the most prestigious award ceremonies in India, were announced yesterday. The award ceremony was scheduled for April but the Information and Broadcasting Ministry said that it’d announced after the Lok Sabha elections. The awards were announced by filmmaker Rahul Rawail and other jury members at the Shastri Bhawan in New Delhi. No prize for guessing that Uri: The Surgical Strike won a bunch of awards.Click here for the full list of winners.New to this email?
