Click here A survivor reveals herselfIn 2016, more than a year before the New York Times story on Harvey Weinstein re-energized the MeToo movement, there was The Letter.Written by an anonymous 23-year-old woman to a fellow student at Stanford University who sexually assaulted her, the letter was devastating. Crucially, it was humanizing. The woman, known only as Emily Doe, read the letter at the trial of her attacker, Brock Turner, and then shared it with Buzzfeed. It went viral. So when the news broke that Turner only got sentenced to six months in jail, the outrage was sufficiently loud enough to spark changes in sentencing laws. So often, rape victims' stories are overshadowed by their attackers. "We're reminded that the perpetrators of sexual violence have a 'bright future ahead of them' and are 'good kids,' " HuffPost's Alanna Vagianos said in this story from 2016. "But what about the future of the survivor?" The letter gave us a glimpse of the survivors' story -- from the trauma of the encounter to the horrors and hurdles of actually prosecuting a rape case. And now there's more. The woman who wrote it, Chanel Miller, will tell her full story in a new book "Know My Name," due out Sept. 24. On Wednesday, she'll appear on CBS' "60 Minutes." The show released a clip from the interview today. "In newspapers, my name was 'unconscious, intoxicated woman," she reads. "You cannot give me back the life I had."
