Click here Friday, August 31 FARROW ‘THREATENED’ OVER WEINSTEIN REPORTING NBC News reportedly threatened to “smear” journalist Ronan Farrow if he continued to work on what became his bombshell exposé on decades of sexual assault allegations against Hollywood film producer Harvey Weinstein. The threats allegedly came from the network’s general counsel Susan Weiner in a series of phone calls. [HuffPost] [Tweet | Share on Facebook] TRUMP CONTINUES ANTI-PRESS TIRADE President Donald Trump railed against the press during a campaign rally in Indiana, falsely claiming that TV crews at the event turn off their cameras when he attacks the media. His singled out The New York Times, CNN and NBC specifically — a continuation of his earlier tweetstorm in which he claimed NBC anchor Lester Holt doctored the tape of him admitting he fired former FBI director James Comey because of the Russia probe. During the event, a Trump volunteer tried to physically block a photojournalist from taking a picture of a protester. [HuffPost] MAN ARRESTED OVER BOSTON GLOBE THREATS A California man was arrested after making more than a dozen calls to The Boston Globe newspaper threatening to kill its employees. The FBI detained Robert D. Chain, 68, in connection with calls he allegedly made earlier this month after the Globe announced it was spearheading a pushback against political attacks on the media. [HuffPost] ALEX JONES DEFAMATION CASE GOING TO TRIAL Conspiracy theorist Alex Jones failed to shut down a defamation lawsuit brought against him by the parents of a Sandy Hook victim. Leonard Pozner and Veronique De La Rosa are seeking more than $1 million in damages for his repeated lies about the 2012 massacre. The ruling came after Jones attempted to get his case dismissed earlier this month. [HuffPost] ‘FAPPENING’ SCAMMER SENTENCED George Garofano of Connecticut was sentenced to eight months in prison for a phishing scam that resulted in the 2014 celebrity nude photo hack known as “The Fappening.” [HuffPost] DOJ BACKS HARVARD DISCRIMINATION LAWSUIT The Trump administration sided with Asian-American students suing Harvard University over the Ivy League school’s consideration of race in its admissions policy. The lawsuit, filed by Students For Fair Admission, argues that Harvard discriminates against Asian-American applicants. The Justice Department said in a court filing that the school has failed to demonstrate that it does not discriminate on the basis of race. [AP]
