Click here Thursday, August 30 TRUMP DEMANDS CHIEF JUSTICE WEIGH IN ON STEELE DOSSIER President Donald Trump called for the Supreme Court chief justice to intervene and force the judge overseeing the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court to question FBI and Justice Department officials about their use of a so-called Steele dossier as part of the investigation into collusion between the Trump campaign and Moscow. And, according to the Washington Post, Trump’s advisers fear he has neither the staff nor the strategy to protect himself from a possible Democratic takeover of the House and his subsequent legal jeopardy. [HuffPost] SCHUMER GIFTS TRUMP JUDGES Senate Democrats just agreed to expedite votes on 15 of his nominees to lifetime federal court seats. Why? So they could get back to campaigning and focusing on winning re-election in November. [HuffPost] TRUMP FIRES MCGAHN ON TWITTER White House Counsel Don McGahn will step down from his role this fall. Trump made the announcement on Twitter and said McGahn’s departure would take place “shortly after the confirmation” of Brett Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court. According to The New York Times, Trump’s tweet came as a surprise, especially to McGahn. [Reuters] FLORIDA MIDTERM FACE OFF IS PERFECT FOR BOTH CAMPS In Ron DeSantis and Andrew Gillum, Florida Republicans and Democrats both got the opponents they wanted. And it’s already turned nasty, with Trump-backed DeSantis telling the state not to “monkey this up” by electing Andrew Gillum, who would be the state’s first African-American governor if elected. [AP]CANBERRA MULLS CHELSEA MANNING VISIT The Australian government is considering whether to refuse entry to whistleblower Chelsea Manning just days ahead of her speaking tour.
