That's because there are some things you use that are just worth throwing a little extra money at, if possible. Professional tax prep aside (see below), here are three things I've found to be worth the splurge:1. Staub enameled cast iron fry pans. I know what you're thinking: "You dummy, you can buy a Lodge pan for $15." Yes, I know, and I've had to rebuy about 5 of them over the years, because for all the care I take, they always rust, and I don't have the capacity for stripping and reseasoning. But the Staub pan has an enameled cast iron interior and exterior, which means you get all that heat retention and searing ability with almost none of the maintenance, even in high humidity. I bought my 10" pan during a holiday sale at a Williams-Sonoma outlet for $69.96; you can regularly find them for about $99. It cleans up like a dream and looks to last a lifetime.2. Dyson cordless stick vacuums. I would sell my own organs before going back to a corded, heavier vacuum, much less one that couldn't suck the sun from the sky if I accidentally pointed it up. I bought my V6 Animal a couple years ago in the clearance section at Bed Bath & Beyond for something like $189, and all this time later I'm still happy to vacuum. These babies are worth the money for me, especially on sale.3. OXO Brew Conical Burr Coffee Grinder. The young me that babysat for $5 an hour is horrified at spending $79.99 on a coffee grinder, but the adult me who's sick of cleaning up grounds is thrilled with this. My previous burr grinder worked fine, but the plastic receptacle cracked and the body had a static cling issue that turned it into the small appliance equivalent of Pig-Pen from Peanuts. (Grounds swirling everywhere!) This one's relatively quiet, sturdy and doesn't spray grounds when I remove the stainless steel container. What a no-mess relief.Feel strongly about something that's worth spending extra? Let me know and we may share in a future newsletter — while scrimping elsewhere, of course.JanieTake back your lifeIf you’re the handy DIY type, you probably prefer to prepare your own taxes every year. You might even enjoy it. But considering the recent changes to our tax code and the fact that many taxpayers are missing refunds this year, you might be wondering if now is the time to consult a professional. We chatted with two experts who shared the signs it's time to go with a pro.Deal with itTo build collegial relationships with co-workers, you need to share who you are. But anyone who has endured an uncomfortably revealing conversation with a clueless colleague knows there's a boundary between healthy candor and cringe-inducing oversharing. If you're sick of hearing about your officemate's sex life, for example, here's how to stop the convo.Pro Tip:
