No Images? Click here Welcome to your weekly dose of black newsHappy Friday Eve, y'all! Spring has sprung and so has my blood pressure after watching Jordan Peele's latest film, "Us." He's not joking when he says it's a true horror film. Like at all. I'm not here to give any spoilers away, but I will say it messes with your mind. I spoke to the director, primarily about what the hell is going on in his head, but also about casting national treasure Lupita Nyong'o in her very first leading role and making a blackity black film that isn't explicitly about blackness. Check it out, y'all. Speaking of horror, Jess Hilarious has opened her mouth in ignorance again. The comedian came under fire this week after recording a group of Sikh men who were on the same flight as her and claiming to be "threatened" while misidentifying them as Muslims. She did this a day after the tragic New Zealand terror attack. This isn't OK. Though Jess apologized, it truly is tragic to see marginalized people attacking other marginalized folks because of the stereotypes white supremacists put in place. There's nothing funny about xenophobia, Islamophobia or any other form of bigotry. AT ALL. Whew. Now that that's off my chest, let me highlight a black woman doing the work. Tarana Burke, founder of "Me Too" and a literal icon, is launching a five-stop anti-sexual violence tour to HBCUs. The tour will include “in-depth conversations and strategy sessions centered around creating safe and accountable communities for students, faculty, administrators,” according to the event’s website. This is so necessary. Kudos to Tarana! This week's Best Things 🎉 Rejoice! The cast of "In Living Color" will reunited 25 years after finale 💃🏿The pilot episode of everyone's favorite ’90s sketch comedy series will be screened at this year's Tribeca Film Festival, followed by a discussion from the cast. So can I get a ticket or...?Jay-Z's "Blueprint" album has a new home at the Library of Congress 🙌🏾One of Hov's best albums is among the 25 albums that have just been added to the National Recording Registry.Andrew Gillum may not be running for office but he's not going anywhere anytime sooThe former gubernatorial candidate denied plans to run for president in 2020, but that doesn't mean he won't have an impact on the race. Gillum is planning to register at least 1 million Florida voters before the presidential election in an effort to turn the state blue.Notes from the mailbag 📫We want to hear from you! Each week we'll have a new question or topic.
