Click here What else is there to say as a parent the day after Daylight Saving Time hits then as many expletives as humanly possible?Really, I applaud you if you had an easy go of it this time around. I, however did not.Let’s review: My husband is away on a much-needed and much-deserved boys weekend, so I’m flying solo with the kids. It’s mostly been fine until yesterday, aka doomsday. Yesterday, aka day two and a half of solo parenting, my kids shot up like a light at 5am, which, let’s not forget, was really 4am. I had grand plans to go get bagels first thing in the morning so we had them for the week, but we were up HOURS before the bagel place was even open. As we finally get to the bagel place, I somehow manage to lock the keys to the car inside the car. Now, I didn’t notice this until both my kids had spilled some juice or another on themselves and were whining to no end. And when we went -- in the pouring rain -- to get into the car, I noticed the keys inside the cup holder. I still have no idea how this happened, but quickly called AAA and a nice man came to jimmy open the door not more than 15 minutes later. Suffice it to say, it was not the best start to the day for any of us.I wholeheartedly blame the time change. In fact, many parents blame DST for all their flubs on the day of. As a parent, it’s natural. And, as I was finally driving my finally calm children back home, I felt a little less alone when I recalled a study fellow HuffPost mom Catherine Pearson wrote about last week: Parents don’t return to the same levels of sleep duration and sleep satisfaction they experienced pre-pregnancy for six looooong years. Can you believe that?! (I certainly can.)So maybe all of us zombies can blame both the time change AND the fact that our kids -- no matter how sweet or lovable they might be -- are little sleep-sucking monsters.Bless them, and really, keep on keepin’ on guys. For when your kid is keeping you awake As part of HuffPost’s What Women Want Now package in honor of Women’s History Month, I felt compelled to share my experience giving birth via C-section. Reader beware: I get really real here. And if you’ve had a C-section, well, you’ll probably be able to relate.More stories from the trenches: HuffPost is now a part of Oath and a part of Verizon.
