No Images? Click here I spent the majority of last week in a management training seminar. It was like Myers Briggs on steroids., but it was so worth it. I learned about how my personal proclivities are both a detriment and a blessing to my management style, but I also learned a lot about how I tend to operate outside of the office, at home as a mother.At one point, we were asked to pair up and talk to our partner about who we admire and why. Both of us -- from very different backgrounds and at very different stages in our lives -- said our parents. She noted that she admired her mom because, even on her deathbed, her mom reminded her kids about the importance of being kind. I said that I admired my parents for being totally different people, and as such they each gave me unique gifts. I admire my father for having a deep-seated moral compass and imparting the importance of always doing what’s right. I admire my mother for her strength, her mind and her hard-working, can-do attitude.After our conversation, I’ve thought a lot about what I’d want my kids to say about me if they’re ever in a room like that. What’s one nugget I can make sure they get from me? What would be my final reminder to them on my deathbed? It’s a good exercise, because it forces you to focus in those moments when you’re at your wit’s end.If this exercise worked for me, I’m hoping it’ll work for you, too.
